University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center's Internal Medicine Residency Program
The UH Geauga Internal Medicine Residency Program is a traditional three-year, ACGME accredited program. Starting in July 2025, the residency will be starting a Preliminary track within the Program.
During training, residents are exposed to various aspects of medicine in both community and academic settings. Robust subspecialty experience includes cardiology, pulmonology, hematology/oncology, rheumatology, infectious disease, nephrology, and gastroenterology, among others. Inpatient rotations occur at UH Geauga Medical Center and other clinical experiences utilize other medical centers within the UH system such as UH Cleveland Medical Center.
For each of the three years, residents work alongside residents from other programs including the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program as well as students from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). Together, we strive to provide an optimal Clinical Learning Environment for all and the best possible patient care under the careful guidance and supervision of the dedicated faculty present at each facility.
Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to the UH Geauga IM Residency Program! I am excited for you to review the information within our website to gain more insight into our program. The UH Geauga program is a close-knit community program that will prepare you for your future, regardless of your ultimate career goals.
The UH Geauga IM program is housed in the community hospital of Chardon, Ohio with clinical experiences in the community and through our affiliations with other facilities within the University Hospitals system throughout Cleveland. Through these varied clinical experiences, residents care for patients from primary care to tertiary ICU referral settings and are exposed to a diverse patient population, preparing residents for a variety of post-graduate careers.
The UH Geauga IM program has a robust clinical learning environment that continues to grow. The program welcomed 3rd year IM clerkship students from NEOMED in 2024 and increased the class size from seven to eight residents and started a preliminary medicine program in 2025. However, the best thing I believe this program has to offer is the collegiality, support, and kindness of the faculty and residents.
I hope that you enjoy learning more about the program and the opportunities it provides. Please feel free to contact me, our chief resident, or our coordinator if you have any questions and I hope you consider applying to our program!
