Why did you choose UH?: I did a few away rotations my fourth year of medical school and I can honestly say that UH/Case Western had some of the best clinically trained residents. UH does all of the transplants, trauma, and it isn’t saturated with fellows. Not only did residents actually seem happy, they were close with each other and the faculty. The pay is great, the city has a friendly Midwest culture, Cleveland gets lots of snow (which I enjoy), and it is centrally located to friends and family.

Why did you choose UH?: Three reasons: 1) the culture of the program is extremely supportive and positive; 20 the case mix at UH is excellent, I wanted the option to do everythign from complex cardiac cases to trauma; 30 the consensus from anesthesia residents - and even the surgery residents and attendings - is that the program turns out great anesthesiologists.

Career Interests: I have a commitment to serve in the United States Army for seven years after residency, so I’m quite excited to spend at least part of my career serving those who defend our great nation. However, eventually I could see myself pursuing fellowship in either pediatric or regional anesthesia (who’s to say, maybe both!)

Real Interests: Fishing, climbing, anything outdoors, spending time with family/friends, and reading. I also have a passion for service and love volunteering in my church, local community, and underserved communities around world.

Why did you choose UH?: I chose UH because of how much both residents and alumni spoke so highly about this program and its leadership. The culture of UH and the family atmosphere amongst faculty and residents was more than evident through my interview and second look. On top of that, being at a large trauma center where all the rotations were in house, and the volume was steady was a huge selling point for me. I am sure I will leave UH prepared for any situation throughout my career!

Why did you choose UH?: There were so many reasons why I chose UH! My interview with UH was the best of my fourth year; I felt like I really connected with the chiefs and that Dr. Helou took a sincere interest in my personal development and career goals. With the residents consistently matching into top fellowships, I felt that I could reach my goals by completing my residency at UH. Being able to practice close to friends and family, as well as catch the occasional Cavs/Guardians/Browns game, made UH the perfect choice for me.

Why did you choose UH?: I was so impressed by the culture of support and camaraderie during my away rotation at UH. The residents made me feel like part of the team from day one, and I knew I wanted to train in an environment where people genuinely care about each other’s growth, both personally and professionally. The program’s strong reputation, excellent clinical training, and location in a fun city like Cleveland made it an easy decision.

Why did you choose UH?: During the interview process everyone was genuinely happy at UH. It made interviewing here fun! UH is big but not too big—class sizes are perfect. A chunk of the faculty are anesthesia critical care trained, which is a plus for learning as a resident, especially while in the SICU/CTICU. The leadership and support here are amazing. It is a long-standing level 1 trauma center with a great reputation that does practically every surgical case under the sun. Cleveland is also a well-known healthcare hub and an exciting city to live in with tons to do!
