Clinical Nutrition for Medical Professionals

Referring to Outpatient Clinical Nutrition at University Hospitals

Registered dietitian nutritionists at University Hospitals work hand-in-hand with referring providers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver coordinated and cost-effective care. Our registered dietitian nutritionists are skilled in providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT).  They will monitor and evaluate the patient’s progress and provide nutrition education for disease prevention and nutrition counseling for chronic conditions.

The Clinical Nutrition team at University Hospitals seeks to partner with health professionals to make it easy for providers to refer patients for nutrition services.

Why refer your patients to a UH registered dietitian nutritionist?

  • Improve patient health outcomes
  • Increase patient satisfaction and patient support for achievement of health and nutrition goals
  • Reduce medication use
  • Increase physician time for patient care
  • Decrease hospital admissions and total cost of care

RDNs provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) which has been proven to improve patient outcomes in diabetes, hypertension, lipid metabolism disorders, weight management, pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, and unintended weight loss.
