Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University! Our UH mission is “To Heal, To Teach, To Discover”. In our Department, we have added “To Serve.”
It is upon a philosophy of service that all of our work is predicated – service to our patients, service to our trainees, service to science and innovation, and service to our community. As we endeavor to serve, we feel privileged to collaborate internally, as well as with colleagues across our hospital System and across Northeast Ohio.
Our Department houses training programs with nationally renowned teachers, including our Adult Psychiatry residency program as well as myriad ACGME-accredited fellowships – and non-ACGME fellowships as well! We have ACGME fellowships ranging from Child and Adolescent, to Consultation-Liaison, to Forensics, to Geriatric Psychiatry. We also are home to a novel ACGME-accredited regional Addiction Psychiatry fellowship training program, where fellows rotate in all three of Cleveland’s major academic medical Systems as well as many community sites. We are proud to be the home of the country’s largest and longest-standing Post-Pediatric Portal Program. This innovative fellowship is designed for pediatricians who have elected to return for additional training in Psychiatry. We also boast as one of the largest Public and Community Psychiatry fellowships in the nation. Importantly, we are home to core medical student rotations; we host nurse practitioner trainees for clinical hours; and in recent years we have expanded psychology training (including interns and post-doctoral colleagues). We value interdisciplinary work, care, and training opportunities.
Researchers from translational to clinical also have a home here. We are expanding research opportunities, collaborations, and support – both at a Departmental level, and in conjunction with the robust University Hospitals Health Services Research Center.
Beyond our academic Department “home base,” our System-wide Behavioral Health Institute incorporates and acknowledges our community hospital and ambulatory presence. Inpatient care ranges from units across our own System to longstanding relationships with the VA Northeast Ohio Heath Care, Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare state psychiatric facility, and our joint venture partners at Southwest General Hospital. On the ambulatory side, local community mental health centers have significant UH resident, faculty, and leadership presence.
We strive to work hard, partner effectively, and provide excellent patient care. Our objectives include training the next generations of clinicians, and pursuing research to expand global understanding of psychiatric illnesses. I welcome you to explore our vibrant behavioral health community and all it has to offer.
Warmly,
Jeanne Lackamp, MD, DFAPA, FACLP
