Clinical Trials: What you Need to Know
Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Clinical trials require considerable safeguards and understanding. The reasons to conduct trials are to evaluate effectiveness of an agent or approach; determine safety of an agent or approach; define the dose of an agent; assess new agent formulations; explore combinations; and evaluate a subject’s quality of life. During this presentation we will discuss navigating this complex process and gain an understanding of barriers to accrual, the informed consent process, issues of research involving vulnerable populations, confidentiality and privacy of participant information, issues related to commercial gain, legal requirements (ie, researcher’s liability), holder of IND, the NIH 5 designated areas, the 5 trial types, randomization, efficient strategies to design trials, influencers of outcome, the greater role the pharmaceutical industry now plays, and much more.
