Aortic Disorders We Treat
Trusted Aortic Expertise
With clinical outcomes on par or better than other academic medical centers nationwide, the Aortic Disease Center offers the latest therapies available, including:
- Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of an aneurysm using small incisions in the groin along with X-ray guidance and special instruments to insert a stent graft inside the aorta
- Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) of a thoracic aneurysm using endovascular technology
- Fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (FEVAR) of an aneurysm that involves the blood vessels to the kidneys using small incisions in the groin or arms while continuing to preserve blood flow through the critical arteries to the kidneys and other organs
- Hybrid (open surgical-endovascular) repair of ascending aortic aneurysms and arch pathologies using “elephant trunk” or “frozen elephant trunk” procedure
- Open surgical and endovascular reconstruction of thoraco-abdominal aneurysms
- Open surgical reconstruction of occlusive diseases of the great vessels, thoracic and abdominal aorta
- Open surgical and endovascular treatment of aortic dissections, aortic ruptures, intramural hematoma and penetrating aortic ulcer
- Open surgical and endovascular repair of complex abdominal aortic aneurysm
Our program also offers genetic evaluation and counseling for patients and families affected by Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or other connective tissue disease involving the aorta.

International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection (IRAD)
University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute in Cleveland has been accepted into IRAD, a consortium of research centers evaluating the current management and outcomes of acute aortic dissection and intramural hematoma. IRAD was established in 1996 and is comprised of referral centers in 13 countries. IRAD’s multi-center database allows physician researchers to identify trends, understand the presentation and management of aortic dissection, and guide best practices for diagnosis and treatment.
