Bio
Nicole Maronian, MD, an otolaryngologist, was appointed President of University Hospitals Medical Group in May 2025 after serving as Interim President. She is responsible for leading strategic initiatives focused on strengthening operations, improving access to care for our patients, physician leadership development and professionalism, and enhancing medical staff services. In her leadership roles, Dr. Maronian has spearheaded physician listening sessions to help enhance engagement. She also established the Physician Advisory Cabinet to formalize more transparent and bidirectional communication between physicians and leadership on policies important to the system.
Dr. Maronian earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed her residency and fellowship in otolaryngology at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester followed by a fellowship in laryngology at the University of Washington Medical Center.
Dr. Maronian joined University Hospitals in 2006 from the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. She holds the Julius W. McCall Endowed Chair in Otolaryngology and is a professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In 2018, she was also named Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center – the first female surgical department chair for UH. In 2020, Dr. Maronian was named the Richard W. and Patricia R. Pogue Leadership Chair in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Maronian additionally serves as Director of University Hospitals’ ENT Institute.
Board certified in otolaryngologic surgery, Dr. Maronian’s clinical career and expertise have been focused in the areas of neuro-laryngology and airway disorders. She is a frequent presenter and speaker on laryngeal disease at local, regional and national medical meetings and conferences and has published extensively on laryngeal and tracheal disease.
Dr. Maronian serves on the board of the Association of Academic Departments of Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Legislative Affairs Committee. Dr. Maronian was the recipient of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Honor Award. She was also named one of the Exceptional Women in Medicine by Castle Connolly, a Woman of Professional Excellence by YWCA Greater Cleveland, and is routinely listed among the Top Doctors in Northeast Ohio in Cleveland Magazine as well as among the Best Doctors in America as voted on by peers.
