Torn ACL Threatens to Take Busy Mom Out of the Game

“I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jacob Calcei in September 2020. While playing living room tackle football with my three little boys, I tore my left ACL. Based just off my physical exam, Dr. Calcei was fairly certain I had a complete tear. Once this was confirmed through MRI, we met again to discuss my options. Dr. Calcei really took the time to get to know me and develop a customized treatment plan that took into account my schedule as a busy mom with three boys. We made the decision to hold off on the surgery until I finished coaching my sons’ soccer team and until I ran my last race of the year.

“Then, in October, I had my ACL repaired at UH Portage Medical Center. I could not have asked for more compassionate and personable care from Dr. Calcei and the OR team. He had me begin physical therapy less than a week after my surgery and checked in on my progress regularly. He promised me that I would be running again within 16 weeks after my new graft matured. Dr. Calcei was spot on: on my 16-week anniversary, I was able to run 5 miles with no issues. The surgery allowed me to get back to running with my boys and coaching them in soccer. My boys and I will be always be grateful for Dr. Calcei – he’s the best!”
