Watch Provider’s Health Talks

Anna Serels, MD, is a board-certified physiatrist, specializing in physical medicine & rehabilitation. She received her undergraduate degree at McGill University and after completing her medical training at Sackler School of Medicine, she finished her residency training at Harvard University at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

As a physiatrist, her focus is to help people who are having trouble functioning in their day-to-day life, usually due to a problem in nerves, muscles or bones. While her interests lie in neurorehabilitation (stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, etc.), she sees a great variety of patients, especially those with pain. She does in-office procedures including injections, EMG/NCS, and spasticity management. She incorporates a collaborative multidisciplinary approach with colleagues in primary care, orthopedics, neurology, rheumatology, neurosurgery, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

*** at Registration, ***, Dr. Serel's nurse, and Dr. Serel make an EXCELLENT team! *** was very personable, professional, and explained what I needed to do very well. *** is a very caring, empathetic nurse who is thorough, listens to the patient carefully, and records the information accurately. Dr. Serels is the BEST and is certainly worth the wait! I know that she will give me the same excellent experience that she gives all of her patients. Because of the quality of her patient listening coupled with her keen observation and honed diagnostic skills I came away with recommendations for future exercises to do, when to avoid them, and her encouragement to continue moving toward becoming as a healthy and strong an individual as I can to enjoy my senior years!!! Thank you, Dr. Serels and staff! ***

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
