About

Sarah Mowry, MD is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained neurotologist at University Hospitals. She is also an associate professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the director of the UH otolaryngology residency program.

Dr. Mowry specializes in temporal bone disorders in children and adults and has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of ENT conditions, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), cholesteatoma, facial nerve disorders, paragangliomas, Meniere’s disease and vestibular schwannomas. She also has advanced training in bone-anchored hearing solutions and cochlear implants.

After earning her undergraduate degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, Dr. Mowry attended Tulane University School of Medicine where she received her medical doctorate. She went on to complete a residency in otolaryngology at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Mowry further advanced her training by completing a fellowship in neurotology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

Dr. Mowry first became interested in otology as a medical student when she was exposed to cochlear implant technology and the power to restore hearing to the hearing impaired. While she continues to be passionate about hearing (re)habilitation, her practice encompasses the breadth of academic neurotology. In addition, she maintains a busy clinical research program with a focus on cochlear implant outcomes and 3-D printing of the temporal bone.

In her free time, Dr. Mowry enjoys cooking and exploring the Cleveland MetroParks with her husband and two children.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
