Also board-certified and fellowship-trained in pain medicine, Dr. McCallin specializes in interventional and neuromodulation approaches for the management of chronic pain.

Dr. McCallin completed his undergraduate education at Case Western Reserve University, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in sports medicine. During this time, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army at nearby John Carroll University.

After earning his medical degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. McCallin went on to complete an internship and residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and later, at the newly formed Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Following his residency, Dr. McCallin served as a staff physiatrist at physical medicine & rehabilitation clinics at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Belvoir, Virginia, and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas.

Shortly after his arrival to BAMC he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the squadron surgeon for 4/9 Cavalry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Upon return from deployment, Dr. McCallin further advanced his training, completing a fellowship in pain management at BAMC.

During this time, he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

After separating from the Army in 2021 he returned home to Northeast Ohio and sought an academic position with University Hospitals to continue to teach residents and fellows in pain medicine.

Dr. McCallin has several peer reviewed publications and book chapters and is the co-author of the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines for Rehabilitation of Individuals with Lower Limb Amputation. He has given multiple lectures regionally as well as nationally on various topics related to pain medicine and was the recipient of the 12th annual Samuel J. Dr. McCallin and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I am having tremendous results from the pain shots I am receiving from Dr. McCallin. Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
