About

Joseph Kohne, MD, MSc, joined the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine of University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in September 2025. Previously, Dr. Kohne served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan and Faculty Investigator in the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center.

Dr. Kohne earned his MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan. He also holds a Master of Science in health and healthcare research from the University of Michigan, where he completed a pediatric health services research fellowship.

Dr. Kohne’s clinical interests are in children with respiratory failure and include managing Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS) and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). He takes a comprehensive approach to the spectrum of respiratory disease, including flexible bronchoscopy and mechanical ventilation optimization. Dr. Kohne's research focuses on applying health services research and data science to improve care for critically ill children.
