About

Gregory Hall, MD, is an internal medicine physician at University Hospitals and serves as the medical director for University Hospitals Cutler Center for Men. He has almost 30 years of experience as a primary care physician and has a deep interest in health disparities and outcomes in the African American population. Dr. Hall has a dual appointment at Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Medicine as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Integrative Medical Sciences and is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Hall was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland. He earned his undergraduate degree at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and his medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio. He went on to complete his residency training in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Hall spent 20 years in private practice in the Cleveland area before joining UH in 2021.

Dr. Hall wrote a book entitled Patient-Centered Clinical Care for African Americans: A Concise, Evidence-Based Guide to Important Differences and Better Outcomes. First published in 2020, this was the first book to broadly address best practices in the clinical care of African Americans. In the wake of the book’s success, the continuing medical education organization Pri-Med invited Dr. Hall to deliver monthly webcasts focusing on the clinical care of African Americans and other vulnerable populations. These programs help educate providers across the county on the subject of health equity and improving health outcomes for minorities.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hall has served on various boards and committees related to public health. He served as co-chair of the Cleveland Public Health Advisory Board and was appointed to eight two-year terms on the Ohio Commission on Minority Health, serving as chairman for his last three terms. Dr. Hall was appointed to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health in 2010 and was elected board president in 2020, leading Ohio’s second largest public health organization through the COVID-19 pandemic.

In partnership with former UH Chief of Staff Emeritus Edgar Jackson, Jr., Dr. Hall established the National Institute for African American Health (NIAAH), a non-profit that mentors pre-med and medical students, facilitate research initiatives in partnership with academic institutions, provide an online resource for consumer health education, and offers provider certification services. NIAAH was recently awarded $250,000 by the Cleveland Foundation for its launch.

Dr. Hall and his wife, Melanie Hall, APRN, have three adult sons, Alex, Nick, and Greg Jr., and live in Mayfield Village, Ohio.

This was my first visit with Dr Hall ***. Although the appointment was an hour late, when I finally met Dr Hall I immediately felt at ease. After chatting a bit with Dr Hall I knew I had a very experienced, good natured, and knowledgeable doctor to rely on for medical guidance. There were a number of current issues we covered and discussed, some at length. After I left, my feeling on the way back to the car was that I am lucky to have discovered him as my new PCP. He took the time to make sure we covered everything together. That likely also explains the delayed appointment - he spends the time needed with his patients. I appreciate that.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
