Heather Gornik, MD, is Co-Director of the Vascular Center, Director of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia & Arterial Dissection Program, and the John B. Lally Family Master Clinician in Fibromuscular Dysplasia and Vascular Care at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. She is also a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
A cardiologist and vascular medicine specialist, Dr. Gornik completed medical school at the University of Chicago. She went on to receive additional training in internal medicine, cardiology, and vascular medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston where she also served as chief medical resident. She previously worked at Cleveland Clinic for 13 years, where she was the medical director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratories and Section Head of Vascular Medicine.
Dr. Gornik is an internationally recognized expert in the care of complex vascular diseases, particularly fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), an uncommon disease of the arteries that can lead to narrowing, aneurysm and dissection. She currently serves as a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA) and serves on the steering committee of the United States Registry for FMD. She collaborates with clinicians and investigators worldwide to advance the understanding of this potentially morbid vascular disease. In addition to her work in FMD, Dr. Gornik is a nationally regarded expert in noninvasive vascular diagnostic testing and is a past president of the Vascular Testing Division of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
Dr. Gornik has led the development of national guidelines related to the diagnosis and clinical care pathways for patients with vascular disease. She is a past president of the Society for Vascular Medicine and serves as editor-in-chief of its official journal, Vascular Medicine.

I have been seeing Dr. Gornik with my vascular ***** disease since 2009. I have never had a more thorough caring doctor. Her knowledge and expertise in the field of vascular medicine astounds me. She gathers data from tests and explains and discusses with a follow-up that puts me at the center of her concern. She uses comparative analysis to chart my disease and shows me visually any changes that need addressed. She is so professional and has a pleasant personality that makes doctor/patient bonding a wonderful experience. All my tests results and any visual scans/ultrasounds appear on MyChart with her reports for me to reference almost immediately. I travel over six hours to access her care and am grateful to have found Dr. Gornik. As a recipient of her skills, I am so blessed. Thank you so much, Dr. Gornik. Dr Gornik and her nurse were fantastic! Her nurse and assistant were great to communicate whether or not they had received all my records before my appt, and they had tests and everything arranged beforehand. Dr Gornik and her nurse were great to spend the time needed and didn't act rushed during my appt. Tests were done the day of the appointment because I live out of state. They were great to schedule new tests to be done asap to accommodate my time frame being in Cleveland. They were great to squeeze in a follow up appt after the additional tests. My original appt was 5 months out, but I was so grateful she accommodated the urgency to see me and bumped me up three months. ***** I was very impressed with Dr Gornik. I loved her bedside manner and how she communicated with me. I had absolute confidence in her expertise, and she noticed a medication I should still be taking ***** She gave me clear instructions moving forward. Dr Gornik was also great getting another opinion from a neurosurgeon, *****, while I was there and communicated with him to confirm the path forward. I received good news while there. She also told me her concerns and the unanswered questions we still have, and gave me clear instructions of what needed to be done back home with my doctors there. After my appt, I was filling out paperwork with radiology to have all the imaging/tests that were done there in Cleveland to be sent to my doctors in Utah. Dr Gornik just happened to walked down the hall and saw me filling out the paperwork. She stopped and said her assistant would take care of it. So kind! That evening, Dr Gornik already had typed up notes from my appt and visit. I would absolutely recommend Dr Gornik. I will fly out to Cleveland in a heartbeat to see her again, if necessary. Dr. Gornik and her team are the best medical providers I have ever seen. I came in for a second opinion about a rare condition my providers at home thought I might possibly have. Dr. Gornik was so confident and knowledable about the condition compared about was very clear about if I had it or not. She also checked in on my mental health and aknowledged the event I had with my illness is traumatizing and validated my experiences since. I luckily do not have the disease but unfortunately will not get to see Dr. Gornik again. UH is very lucky to have her.
