Stephen Bigach, MD, is a dual fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon at University Hospitals and an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Bigach also has privileges at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital for the treatment of complex pediatric traumas. He is fellowship-trained in both orthopaedic trauma and hip and knee reconstruction. His special interests include fractures of the hip and pelvis, especially around prior joint replacements, nonunion treatment, and primary and revision joint replacement. Dr. Bigach performs anterior hip replacement and partial and total knee replacements. He cares for patients with all types of fractures, hip or knee osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis of the hip or knee, and failed joint replacements.

Dr. Bigach believes in a patient-centered approach. He feels strongly that each of his patients deserves to understand what is going on with their body and what the way forward looks like. He values honesty and transparency throughout the treatment process. His ultimate goal is to alleviate pain, improve quality of life and get patients back to the activities they love.

Dr. Bigach is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa, where he also started for the Hawkeyes football team. After graduation, he returned home to attend medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Northwestern University (Chicago, Illinois) before doing an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) followed by a joint reconstruction fellowship at the prestigious Anderson Orthopedic Research Institute (Alexandria, Virginia).

Dr. Bigach is a member the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Orthopaedic Trauma Association and AO North America.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.

As of December 31, 2016, Stephen Bigach did not disclose any Outside Relationships with Industry.
